Have you even seen such a cool stoop ceremony in Brooklyn?
When Elyse and Danton told me months ago that they wanted to close their street to have their wedding on their stoop, I didn’t know just how fun it was going to be. This stoop ceremony idea was still in its early stages when we first met, so I didn’t know if it was really going to happen. But when I received the final timeline and realized they had successfully managed to close their street and have their stoop wedding, I was equally surprised (in a good way) and excited. There is no better way to have an intentional ceremony than to have it on your own stoop.
I won’t lie, it was a tricky set up with a circular makeshift aisle and a ceremony way above my head. And to make it that much more complicated, I was shooting on four cameras! Two digital and two film cameras to add some unique photographs to the collection. But the ceremony was so heartfelt and beautiful, all was forgotten as soon as it started. Danton and Elyse both cried during their vows, and the whole neighbourhood got to witness the union. By including their community in their ceremony, Danton and Elyse truly created a unique and special experience for all of us.
After the stoop ceremony in Brooklyn, we headed to the Montauk Club for the evening. We took quintessential NYC photos along the way, including a school bus and a vintage yellow cab. After dinner, Elyse changed into a shorter dress and they danced the night away, until their very last song. And what else but Sinatra’s New York New York to end the night?
Thank you to both of them for including me in the coolest celebration ever! I live for offbeat weddings and for couples who think outside the box :).
