My wedding career started by chance when I responded to a Craigslist ad for a second shooter at 3am. I was hired rather quickly, and my first wedding was an absolute revelation. I was immediately hooked to the intensity of the job and how fast I had to think and act. It quickly dawned on me that weddings were a wonderful way to celebrate history, family, and culture. And because of the immense diversity the city offers, shooting in NYC is that much more special to me.
I opened my own little studio in 2013 and have been lucky enough to shoot all sorts of weddings in the most amazing venues. I have shot in Edinburgh, Provence, Paris, and of course all over New York State.
When I am not shooting weddings, you can find me on the other side of the world discovering a new country with my husband or at home baking. I am a true animal lover, and I own a cat who plays fetch and overall acts like a dog. I am also a big movie buff and can’t help but rule for the underdog in all the movies I watch.
Born in Brazil and raised in Austin, Texas, Jonica is a staple of the NYC wedding scene and is an absolute ninja. I am so happy that she joined the team a couple of years ago, because she brought her expertise and good mood. She is the next best thing to me, so if I am already booked on your wedding day, she can be your girl.
Jonica loves flaky croissants, the purr of her cat (Willie Nelson), and good English mystery novels. She is always on the hunt for the most gorgeous light and genuine moment; she wants her couples to relive their day at its rawest when looking at their images.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who will shoot my wedding?!
When you contact us, it’s me (Carole) who will answer your emails. This studio is my baby, and I am your point of contact here. I shoot all the weddings that I can, but if I am already booked my two favorite ladies would be a beautiful alternative for you, if you’d like. They are seasoned photographers trained to shoot just like me. I will be there every step of the way from the booking process to the delivery of your images, so even if I cannot be your shooter, I’ll be super involved too!
We only shoot about 30 weddings a year to give our full attention to all of our couples. We might be a team of three, but we are still a boutique studio.
How does the booking process go?
We can meet over coffee or wine, or Skype/call if you live far away. Once you have made you decision, a contract will bind us together. There is a 25% deposit required upon signing that you can send over via check or Chase Quickpay. Easy peasy!
Do we get a print release?
Yes. The contract assures you high resolution pictures that you can print as you wish. You will receive them via WeTransfer a month after your wedding. A gallery is also set up online that you can share and print from.
How many pictures do we get in the end?
Between 400 and 800, depending on how long we are there for. They are all hand-retouched by me on two editing softwares and put together in a coherent story that will reflect your day in a genuine way.
How are engagement sessions like?
Engagement pictures are a great way to take the pressure off for the big day, plus they will get you some great content for your wedding website or your invites. New York City offers amazing outdoor backdrops, but pictures taken in intimate locations, like an apartment or a favorite coffee shop, can be super special as well. In the end, it is up to you, and it will be fun and special wherever we are.
What happens if you get sick?
The contract protects you against something like this, which has never happened, even after extensive hand surgery (true story!).
Can we get the raw files?
The raw files will always remain the property of the photographer. And since they are unusable unless you have professional photography softwares, you will have no use for them. But don’t worry, you will get hundreds of images of all the important moments of your wedding day, and you won’t be missing out on anything!
What about Covid?
This thing might have crashed 2020’s wedding season, but there is no way I am letting it be an issue for you. If Covid is the reason why you have to postpone your wedding, I am letting you pick any other date that you would like. However, I do request that you let me know ahead of time so we can find a date that works for all of us, and I am offering a 50% discount on my 10X10 leather albums for any couple that postpones on a week day!
