My wedding career started by chance when I responded to a Craigslist ad for a second shooter at 3am. I was hired, and my first wedding was an absolute revelation. I was quickly hooked to the intensity of the job and how fast I had to think and act. It quickly dawned on me that weddings were a wonderful way to celebrate history, family, and culture. And because of the immense diversity the city offers, shooting in NYC is that much more special to me.
When I am not shooting weddings, you can find me on the other side of the world discovering a new country with my husband or at home baking. I am a true animal lover, and I own a cat who plays fetch and overall acts like a dog. I am also a big movie buff and can’t help but rule for the underdog in all the movies I watch.
Born in Brazil and raised in Austin, Texas, Jonica is a staple of the NYC wedding scene and is an absolute ninja. I am so happy that she joined the team a couple of years ago, so if I am already booked on your wedding day, she can be your girl.
Jonica loves flaky croissants, the purr of her cat (Willie Nelson), Rupaul’s Drag Race, and good English mystery novels. She is always on the hunt for the most gorgeous light and genuine moment.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who will be shooting my wedding?
When you contact us, it’s me (Carole) who answer your emails. This studio is my baby, and I am your point of contact here. I shoot all the weddings that I can, but if I am already booked Jonica is a great alternative. I will be there every step of the way from the booking process to the delivery of your images, so even if I cannot be your shooter, I’ll be super involved!
We only shoot about 20 weddings a year to give our full attention to you. We might be a team of two, but we are still a boutique studio. 🙂
How does the booking process go?
We can meet over coffee or wine, or video call if that’s easier. Since Covid hit, Zoom and GoogleMeet have become my main way of meeting people. Once you have made you decision, I will send you a contract that will bind us together. There is a 25% deposit required upon signing that you can send over via check or Chase Quickpay. Easy peasy!
Do we get a print release?
Yes. The contract assures you high resolution pictures that you can print as you wish. You will receive a sneak peek of about 70 photos the week following your wedding via online download, and your full collection will be ready 8 weeks after your wedding.
How many pictures do we get in the end?
Between 400 and 800, depending on how long we are there for. They are all hand-retouched by me on two editing softwares and put together in a coherent story that will reflect your day in a genuine way.
How are engagement sessions like?
Engagement pictures are a great way to take the pressure off for the big day, plus they will get you some great content for your wedding website or your invites. New York City offers amazing outdoor backdrops, but pictures taken in intimate locations, like an apartment or a favorite coffee shop, can be super special as well. In the end, it is up to you, and it will be fun and special wherever we are.
What happens if you get sick?
The contract protects you against something like this, which has never happened, even after extensive hand surgery (true story!).
Can we get the raw files?
The raw files remain the property of the photographer. Since you need professional photography softwares to open them, you will have no use for them. But don’t worry, you will get hundreds of edited images and you won’t be missing out on anything!
